Helping You On World Mental Health Day!
Today is World Mental Health Day! A day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues around the entire world and pulling together to show support for mental health care across the globe! We at DigitalGrads understand that job hunting can be a stressful time which can easily take a toll on your mental health and well being. We asked around our office to give a personal accounts of how we deal with stress and anxiety to keep good mental health. Our mental health tips and tools can help you to make the job hunt stress free!
The comfort of a household pet can make the weight of stress seemingly float right away. Our Marketing Executive, Kristina Chapman, finds spending time with the family dog never fails to take the stress out of her day:
“If I am feeling really stressed and need to re calibrate my brain from anxieties about work or the general stresses of life, I find going on a walk with our family dogs knocks all the stress straight out of me.
My head isn’t thinking about anything else other than the dogs. Dogs really make me laugh, they are SO free. They run about without a care in the world. My mum's dog Teddy is a regular visitor at my house and so is my boyfriends family dog Pepper. We all share in looking after them.
I think it also helps just being out in nature and looking at all the green grass and trees and going on a nice walk. I am sure all of that releases some good endorphins!”
Pets can alleviate the stress after an intimidating interview or having by your side while filling out application forms at home whenever you need them!
Pocket Meditation From Headspace
Guided meditation can be a great way to help you clear your mind and make anxiety disappear. In today’s tech savvy world, mental health apps are already at your fingertips and ready to help you! Our own DigitalGrads founder, Lucy Smith, recommends the Headspace app:
“I use Headspace to de-stress and manage feelings of stress related to running a start-up. The biggest worry I have is running out of cash, not making enough sales and not being able to pay the bills or wages at the end of the month. As I’m sure you can imagine, they are pretty stressful feelings!
The headspace app has a sleep section and I use their Sleepcasts to help quieten my mind and send me off to sleep. I also use their meditations when I feel particularly stressed out - usually towards the end of the month!
For those of you who feel job-hunting anxiety and worry when or how you are going to get a job, I’d definitely recommend taking a look at this app (or others) that take you through guided meditation, if it’s not something you are familiar with. It’s one less thing I have to think about. Just turn it on, relax and listen”.
Headspace can help calm down the anxiety of traveling to an interview as you can meditate straight from your phone, anytime, anywhere!
